A town that overlooks its youth cannot expect to thrive. Our children must come first, not only today, but as they grow into young adults. It is imperative that we set them up for success. We must support the Wake County Public School System including their budget requests to build and operate new schools.

Morrisville Town Hall

We have all experienced the painful traffic congestion that has come from too much new housing without smart planning to allow infrastructure to catch up. Morrisville has the highest number of apartments as a percentage of total housing of ANY municipality in Wake County, including Raleigh. What happens if we continue in this direction, at this pace?

Neighbors have told me that they moved here because of the natural beauty. However, with overdevelopment, we are noticing that the beauty is fading. Our Town Council should not be a rubber stamp for pro-developer interests.

Those of us who have played or coached youth sports have seen the benefits of physical well being, learning/teaching teamwork skills and mental health. On the field/court/pitch, kids learn the value of collaboration and comradery to reach goals and how to be more invested in our community. Morrisville needs to offer more of these experiences.

James Semmens was born in Seoul, Korea to Major James Semmens USA (Ret) and Myung-Yul Semmens in 1968. He moved to the United States when he was four years old and settled down in Tillamook, Oregon. After the passing of his father, he moved to Honolulu, Hawaii. When he began high school, his mother moved the family to the suburbs of Chicago.

James enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1992, and received his commission in 1997 through the Meritorious Commissioning Program. James has had a very exciting career which included nine worldwide deployments, three of which were in combat zones. James served 22 years of honorable, faithful service in the Marine Corps and retired as a Major in 2014.

Upon retirement, James and his family moved back to North Carolina, a place he has always considered home and began working for the State of North Carolina. He and his wife Aimee found a beautiful home in the Kitts Creek neighborhood in Morrisville in 2015 where they now reside.

Over the last 28 years, James has always believed in mentoring the children around him. He has consistently coached, guided and mentored children through youth sports. These sports have provided children leadership and teamwork skills as well as improved physical fitness and reduced mental stress.
